As the year comes to an end we can look back on an action packed season of off-road racing and non-racing events for riders from aged 4 to those ready for retirement. We have had cross-country racing (XC), downhill (DH), off-road sportives, Fox Hunts, trail quests (TQ) and cyclo-cross (CX). Great Weekend for Off Road
The Red Bull Foxhunt on Belfast’s Cave Hill took place at the weekend and attracted competitors and visitors from all over Ireland and beyond.
Irish off road riders have consistently shown their talents both at home and abroad and this is due in no small measure to the top class mountain bike trails in Ireland.
The event promoted by Red Bull, sees 100 riders set off on the course together. They are then chased by World Downhill Champion, Gee Atherton who is set off some seconds after them.… Read more
Foxhunts and Trail Quests
This weekend the Redbull Foxhunt takes place on Cavehill. This downhill mountain bike event has the backing of Belfast City Council and organised by Plush MTB. The entry is full and should make for a great event to spectate at on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday Dromara Cycling Club are launching the first round of their trail quests. These off-road orienteering events have proved to be very popular over the years attracting a full range of cyclist, young and old, leisure and competitive minded. TrailQuest Series Final Report
The fifth and final round of Dromara Cycling Club’s Winter Trail Quests took place on Sunday 29 January 2012 from the Children’s Cancer Care home at Shimna Valley in Bryansford. All proceeds from the five round series were being donated to this charity and it was fantastic to see another great turn out at this roun despite the wet conditions. Dromara CC have been running these mountain bike orienteering events for many years with this charity being the benefactor for over 5 years now.
Sign on took place in an out building beside the main centre with staff laying on tea and coffee for the riders before they set off. … Read more
Rd Three Trailquest
Round 3 of Dromara Cycling Club’s Winter Trail Quests takes place on Tuesday 27 December 2011 from event headquarters at Brennan’s Garage on the Newcastle Road near Seaforde.
These mountain biking orienteering events are great fun for all abilities. You can enter solo or as a team of up to 3 adults. There are two events to chose from, the main 3.5 hour event and the 2 hour one for those who just want to try out the sport and for families. One adult can have a team of 1 or 2 youth riders (age 14 or over).… Read more
Rd 2 Dromara’s TrailQuest Sunday 11th December
Dromara Cycling Club are proud to present their 2011/2012 winter series of Trail Quests to raise money for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. Round 2 takes palce this Sunday 11th December from Dromara Football Club, Rathfriland Road, Dromara. These off-road adventures are great for all levels of cyclists who want to discover the lanes, bridle ways and trails around the country in a hunt for markers. The events have time limits which means you have to find the most markers possible and return to base within the time limit.… Read more
Some strange outfits at Round 1 of Dromara CC’s trail quest series
Dromara Cycling Club opened their Winter Series of Trail Quests with the first of five rounds taking place on Sunday 30 October 2011 at Lady Dixon Park in Belfast. With Halloween just around the corner the club encouraged the riders to get into the festive spirit and dress up themselves and their bicycles with points awarded based on the effort put in. The riders were greeted to a fine autumn day with temperatures around 13º which was in marked contrast to last year when the event at Lady Dixon took place on 5 December to temperatures of -3º.… Read more
