Road Racing This Week

Ards Town Centre Races Wednesday 19th June

The Ards Town Centre races take place tomorrow night with racing for all categories unckuding Youth, Masters and Women. The sign-on will take place in the the Town Hall where there will also be toilet facilities. Sign on is in Conway Square from 6pm with the novice race starting at 7pm after the PSNI have closed the roads.  Sign on for the novice race will close at 6.45pm.

13/06/2013 Spires Time Trial Trilogy Round 3

Marcus Christie made a return tonight to record the fastest time on the Toome course with a fantastic time of 20.16. Stephen Harkens of Team Madigan was also very fast tonight with a 21.57 and in third place David Barton of east Tyrone is showing good form again.

Laura Maxwell continued her winning streak with a time of 25.42, the fastest of her 3 TTs on the Toome circuit series, winning the women’s series overall.

The final standings saw Stephen Harkens in first, followed by Rodney Stewart, TVR in second and Stuart Scott of Team Madigan in third.… Read more

Up Coming Events – RR, TT and Leisure

Thursday 13th June – Spires Trilogy TT Round 3 – Toome
Tonight Spires CC will promote the final round of their Time Trial Trilogy which as usual will take place on the Toome course. Riders in contention for the overall win are currently only separated by a few points so tonight could be a real decider.

Sign-on will take place in the Park and Ride facility on the Belfast side of the new bridge at Toome from 6.00pm. The first rider will be off at 7.00pm.… Read more

Derry Crit and Spires Trilogy This Week

The Maiden City Criterium in Derry City promoted by Foyle CC is an exciting new event in the Cycling Ulster calendar and we urge riders to support this event in the North West.  The crit will take place on tomorrow night, Tuesday 11th June starting at 7.00pm and sign on from 6.00pm.

This event is a competitive short circuit race, with cash prizes, around the centre of Derry on the evening of Tuesday the 11th of June at 7pm for senior riders who are members of Cycling Ireland.… Read more

08/06/2013 Ernie Magwood Super 6 Round 3 Woodgreen

I think we will look about sponsorship for next year from Carlsberg. Because if they did do time trial leagues they would probably have run Saturday’s event. I have never seen so many pleased people and smiling faces after what was a fantastic mornings racing at Woodgreen in ideal conditions.

In this report I won’t mention all who did personal bests or got near to previous figures, as it would do an injustice if I left anyone out and the list of PBs are included in the results although no doubt some of them were missed, so please inform me if you want it amended.… Read more

06/06/2013 Eric Maxwell Time Trial – Warrenpoint

The 6th June proved to be a D Day for some riders as they recorded excellent times at the popular Eric Maxwell Time Trial promoted by West Down Wheelers. The event which is run on the Warrenpoint to Newry dual carriageway was a successful evening  and was pleasantly warm.

Forty six riders turned up to race against the clock. There was a pleasing tail wind on the way towards Newry and a slight gusty head wind on the way back towards Warrenpoint.  John Heverin, last year’s winner retained the Eric Maxwell Trophy with an excellent time of 20.11.… Read more

05/05/2013 McQuigg Cup 50 Mile Time Trial

John Madden of Curran Racing has broken the current 50 mile time trial record by 23 seconds. The record for Veterans was set last year by John Heverin of Clann Eireann with a time of 1:45:42. Madden’s new time of 1:45:19 is a new record which needs to be ratifed by the Board of Cycling Ireland.

The recordwas set on the famous A26 Woodgreen course last night in almost perfect conditions. The event was a Ballymena promotion of the McQuigg Cup.Turn Stewards and observers were in place and the on-form Madden had ensured that a commissaire was present.… Read more

Upcoming Time Trials and Road Races

Thursday 6th June – Eric Maxwell Memorial TT
Tomorrow, Thursday 6th June, West Down Wheelers promote the Eric Maxwell Memorial Time Trial on the Warrenpoint to Newry dual carriageway.

This has always been a very popular event and testers from the south often travel up to it. Paul Healion (RIP) was a past winner and Aaron Buggle has often ridden the event as well.

Sign-on is at Warrenpoint Harbour and starts at 6.00pm. First rider is off at 7.00pm. With the good weather set to continue this ten miles from Warrenpoint to Newry and back could mean that fast times will be set.… Read more

04/06/2013 Jimmy Devlin ’10′

McCann Sets New Vets Record at Jimmy Devlin ’10′
David McCann, who turned forty this year, has set a new Veteran’s record for the ten mile distance with a time of 19.23. McCann set the record on the A26 Woodgreeen course at the Phoenix CC promoted Jimmy Devlin Memorial Time Trial.  The record has yet to be ratified by Cycling Ireland and it is up to the rider to ensure that he claims it. A Commissaire must be in attendance.

The evening was dry and fairly mild with little wind, ideal conditions for the a time trial.… Read more

30/05/2013 Kings Moss TT Woodgreen

On Thursday 30th May Kings Moss hosted an open time trial on the Woodgreen Course. This popular course attracted almost seventy riders.

Best on the night was David McCann of Synergy Baku who recorded twenty minutes dead. Second was Clann Eireann’s John Heverin with a 20.07. These were the only two riders to go below the 21  minute mark so it was a slow night. Best of the rest was Matthew Heaney of Clann Eireann with a 21.05.

Conor Young of Ballymena Chain Reaction was best Junior with a 21.51 while Phoneix CC’s Amy Brice won the womnan’s prize with a 24.14.… Read more
