Competitive Road Events 1st – 5th July

Wednesday 1st July– Gareth Gallagher Memorial TT Series Round 3
This time trial series is promoted by Roe Valley CC. Sign-on at the Vale Centre in  Greysteele from 6.00pm with the first rider off at 7.00pm. A working rear red light is mandatory for this event. Contact Emma Scott on for further details.

Saturday 4th July - JG Memorial - Cranford
The Annual JG Memorial Race will take place in Cranford on Saturday 4th July. The ‘JG’ is Donegal's longest established cycle race. This year it will be hosted by Rathmullan CC assisted by Dinny Doherty (Four Masters) and Carl Fullerton (North Pole).… Read more


Co Down TT Championships Open for Entry

The County Down Open Time Trial (10 Mile) Championships will take place on 11th July 2015.This event is open to all cyclists holding a minimum of a limited Competition Cycling Ireland licence. Only members of a Co.Down club or those with a permanent address in Co.Down will be eligible for the championship prize. (Please note that eligibility will be based on information printed on CI licences) There will also be a prize on the day for the fastest Male and Female outside of the criteria.

There will be seven Categories: A1, A2, A3, A4, Juniors, Vets 50+, and Women.Prizes for the fastest in each Category and overall County Down Man and Woman.… Read more

Mullen Takes Two National Titles in TT Championships

aOmagh Wheelers Cycling club kicked off the National Championships with a super time trial tonight on the rolling roads around Omagh.

Ryan Mullen (An Post Chain Reaction) repeated his win of last year in the Elite and Under 23 category with a time of 47 minutes 46 seconds for the 23 mile loop.

The silver medal went to Cork teenager Eddie Dunbar (48:11) who now riders for the UK based Pro team NFTO.

Ulster man Martyn Irvine (Madison Genises) was third fastest with a time of 48 minutes 57 seconds.… Read more


Entries Open For Ulster 10 TT, 25TT and RR Championships

Entry for Ulster 10 mile TT Championship Now Open
Pre-Entry for the Ulster 10 Time Trial Championship on Sunday 19th July promoted by Donegal Bay CC is now open. This is a strictly pre-entry event and registration is via the Events Booking section on the Cycling Ireland website.Simply login to your account and use the events button to enter. Closing date for registration is Wednesday 15th July. Entries will not be accepted on the day.

A limited competition is the minimum required. The event will take place on the N15 course at Barnesmore, South Donegal and will be a slightly modified version of the regular Donegal Bay TT circuit which is a straight out and back course.… Read more


Great Fields for All Championships – Start Lists Added

Omagh will be a busy place this weekend as hordes of cyclists and cycling enthusiasts descend on the town for the Blue Ribband event of Irish Cycling, namely the National Championships.

The first event takes place on Thursday night with the Time Trial Championships for Women, Elite Men, Tandem and Paracyclists. Ulster has representation in almost all categories. Gary McKeegan and Stuart Scott of Team Madigan will be riding Tandem while Samuel Cunningham (Ballymoney CC) in  H1-H5 class and Chris Burns (Banbridge CC) and Phoenix duo Andrew Nicholson and Daniel Daly compete in the C1-C5 class.… Read more


Competitive Events This Week

The National Championships take place in Omagh this week with the TT on Thursday, Women and Masters races on Saturday and the Elite Men on Sunday. More information on these can be found HERE . There is also the Super Six TT on Wednesday and the Lurgan criterium on Friday for those who are seeking competition.

Time Trial Bike Specifications For National TT

In advance of the National TT Champs which are promoted under UCI Regulations all those hoping to take part are advised that there are strict rules governing the Time trial bikes being used. All riders must have bikes conforming to UCI Standards. You can download the specification document that highlights the dimensions and what exactly is checked on the evening of the Time Trial Championships at the end of this article.

Hopefully this  post will provide awareness for everybody to plan accordingly and avoid issues on the night with non conforming bikes which will result in the rider not being permitted to start.… Read more

More Competitive Events this Week

This is another busy week for cycling as many clubs are running events for Bikeweek. There are also lots of open competitive events in the calendar. There are three crits this week - Tuesday in Antrim, Wednesday in Ards and Friday in Belfast.  Click HERE for more infomation about these. There is a time trial on Thursday promoted by Spires CC and the Audi GP, promoted by East Antrim Audi takes place on Saturday. More information on these last two events below.

More Medal Success For Irish Paracyclists

Colin Lynch and Eoghan Clifford have won time trial gold on another day of medal winning success for the Ireland squad at the UCI Paracycling Road World Cup in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland today.

Double world championship winner Lynch made it back-to-back successes in world cup time trials with victory in the MC2 time trial following his success at the first round of the series in Maniago, Italy last week.

In a dominant performance on a mainly flat 14.15km course that suited strong riders, Lynch had 63.72 seconds in hand over Arslan Gilmutdinov of Russia with Israel Hilario Rimas of Peru a further ten seconds in arrears.… Read more


14/06/2015 Ballymoney 25 m TT Woodgreen

Lynch in Top Form at Ballymoney TT
Fifty riders turned up at Woodgreen this morning in bright but blustery conditions ready to tackle the 25 mile time trial promoted by Ballymoney CC.

Kevin Lynch of Newry Wheelers was in top form and recorded a 54.03 to take overall victory on the day. Home rider Mervyn Linton came in second just thirty eight seconds down with Mark Brown of Phoenix CC taking third in a time of 55.17.

Fastest woman on the day was Ballymena's Eileen Burns who was thirteenth overall with a time of 58.16.… Read more
