On Tuesday, 6th May, Phoenix CC will again host the Ulster Team Time Trial Championships which will be held over the 25 mile course at Woodgreen.
This event takes place only a few days before the Giro Grande Partenza Team Time Trial on some of the roads that the pro’s will be riding on Stage 2. This event has been growing in popularity every year and should attract a large entry in this year of the Giro.
Sign-on will open at 6pm and close at 6.50pm with the first team starting at 7pm, In order to facilitate an efficient sign-on, teams are encouraged to pre enter.… Read more
The league will consist of 12 rounds made up of both 10 and 25 mile TTs. Riders will be required to take part in eight out of the 12 time trials to qualify for a prize, with at least one of those being a 25mile TT. Points will be awarded as follows 1st = 20 points, 2nd =19 points , 3rd= 18 points and so on with a rider’s best eight finishes counting towards their overall points score.… Read more
Youth Races in the Handbook
The details of all the youth races across the varies categories U12, U14, U16 were not transferred across to the generic ‘Youth’ listing on the yearbook. This mistake was not picked up at the time and Cycling Ireland apologises for any inconvenience that this has caused in planning events for young riders.
These events have been recorded on the online event system. Cycling Ireland will be able to display these events separately via a dedicated youth calendar which will be available via the Cycling Ireland website early next week.… Read more
2013 has seen Northern Ireland riders really embrace the challenge of reaching the nomination standard for the Commonwealth Games. Peter Hawkins has joined the list of those that have met the standard bringing the total to 14 riders. With a potential 8 places available competition will be fierce moving into 2014.
There has been a slight change to the nomination criteria, namely the closing date has been confirmed as 26th May at midday. An email explaining this has been sent out to all those that expressed an interest in the games.… Read more
Following a recent Cycling Ireland Board Meeting the following rules were clarified for 2014.
It should be noted that as the result of the new grading rules accepted at the AGM riders who finished the 2013 season as A2, A3 or A4 licence holders may opt to upgrade one category for 2014 but their application in respect of this must be in respect of their 2014 licence application and must be lodged in Kelly / Roche House by 31st December 2013.
The Board has also agreed a derogation for promoters in respect of UCI Technical Regulation 2.1.008 and 2.1.009.
The Cycling Ireland Annual General Meeting will take place on 26th October 2013, at 11am, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan Town. Delegates are requested to arrive prior to 1045 in order to facilitate a timely start to the AGM. Since it is Ulster’s turn to host the AGM we would encourage clubs to send representatives to this meeting.
There wil be an election to select the new President of Cycling Ireland as out-going President Rory Wyley has decided not to stand for re-election, The current nominees for the position are Denis Toomey and Ciaran McKenna.… Read more
Records Smashed at 100 mile TT Championships
Twenty six brave souls lined up at Woodgreen this morng for the ‘Race of truth’ – a one hundred mile time trial run by Ballymoney CC . This was also the Ulster 100m TT Championships.
The morning was fine and sunny and became warm but there was a blustery wind which caught the deep section rims and disc wheels. Not an ideal day for records to be broken but fall they did.
John Madden of Curran Racing who held both the senior and veteran records at this distance with a time of 3:45:05 going in to today’s event went all out to prove that he could go even faster.… Read more
The Ballymoney CC hosted Ulster 100 mile Time Trial Championships will go ahead this Sunday 29th on the A26 (Woodgreen) course.
The roadworks were cleared today at 4,30pm and all 4 lanes are clear.
Sign on is from 8.00am and the first rider is off at 9.00am.
The organisers would really apprecitae it if anyone was free to come along to help out even for a short time to relieve some of the crew.

Riders are reminded of the following
- riding on or close to the centre white line is NOT permitted and penalties or disqualificaton may be applied
- warming up on the course is not permitted once the event has started
- no one is to pass the time keeper when they are warming up once the event has started.
Ireland’s Mark Downey finished in 48th place in the Junior Men’s Time Trial at the World Championships in Italy today. The first year Junior rode a consistent and steady race over the 21.8km course, to finish in a time of 29.13.63, with a speed of 44.75kmph.
The World Title was won by Igor Decraene of Belgium, with Mathias Krigbaum (Denmark) and Zeke Mostov (USA) taking silver and bronze respectively. The UCI Road World Championships in Toscana, Italy started this week, and run from the 22nd – 29th September.… Read more
Ireland’s Ryan Mullen demonstrated the strength and depth of his talent in the U23 Time Trial today at the World Championships, finishing in 7th place out of 74 starters in the 42.79km race against the clock. Teammate Marcus Christie finished in a strong 28th place, in the event that was won by Australia’s Damien Howson, ahead of Paillot (France) and Hansen (Denmard).
The UCI Road World Championships in Toscana, Italy started this week, and run from the 22nd – 29th September. 19 year old Mullen is in his first year racing as a senior, and has already stamped his mark in track cycling, winning two Bronze medals in the European U23 Championships earlier this summer.… Read more
