Ryan Mullen has finished in 11th place in the Under 23 Time Trial on the first day of action at the World Road Championships in Richmond, Virginia. Eddie Dunbar was 38th in the same event while Ciara Doogan was 28th in the earlier Women's Junior Time Trial.
Last year's silver medallist Mullen started second last of the 50 riders by which time drizzle had begun to fall at the start line. At the first intermediate time check after 7.5km, Mullen had lost 25 seconds and, though he improved on the more open second half of the first lap, the damage was already done.… Read more
Ballymena's Eileen Burns has added the Irish 10 mile Time Trial record to her impressive list of achievements this year. Eileen has just finished competing in Rás na mBan, the women's international stage race in Ennis as part of the Cycling Ulster Slane Cycles team where she showed her time trialling skills by coming fourth overall in the TT Stage.
However, not content to take a well deserved break following this gruelling event, Eileen decided to head to Yorkshire at the weekend to take part in the Swift Open 10TT on the V718 course.… Read more
Two Ulster riders have been seleted to represent Ireland in the World Road Race Championships in America later this month. On the Continent a popular cycling event is the "Grand Prix de Gentlemen". In this a vet and a younger cyclist are paired together and they time trial over various distances. Similar races were promoted by the vets in Dublin back in the 70's and 80's. Last Thursday, Square Wheels CC, sponsored by Rushmere, organised a similar competition over 10 miles on Armagh's Moy Road. Foyle CC hosted the Ulster 25m Championships today at Burt in Co Donegal. There was a large turn-out for this popular event and Foyle CC ensured that the event was promoted in a professional manner.
Marcus Christie of Bissell ABG Giant took the Elite men's title with a time of 52.06 from Sean McIntrye (Caldwell Cycles) and Patrick McKenna of Emyvale CC. The 2015 Ulster Youth Road Race and Time Trial Championships were hosted by Omagh Wheelers at the weekend. A last minute change in venue due to roadworks did not prevent the club laying on a superb day of racing for the riders as they experienced the spectacular scenery and rolling rural roads of Baronscourt, just outside the village of Newtownstewart. … Read more
