Cycling Ulster was deeply saddened to hear the news today that 23 year old Junior Heffernan of the Herbalife Leisure Lake Cycling team was killed today following an accident in a road race. Junior who was both a talented cyclist and an international triathlete who has represented Ireland, was in a collision with a car during the Severn Bridge road race. The race was abandoned following the accident.
Junior was due to visit Ulster over Easter when he would be competing in the International P&O Tour of the North for his Herbalife-Leisure Lakes Team. Many of our own top young riders knew Junior and had competed against him in the past.
On behalf of the Executive and all the members of Cycling Ulster we would like to send our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Junior's family circle and to his frinds and team mates.
