News from the off-road cycling side of our sport as we look ahead to the next few cross-country mountain bike events that are happening over the next 3 months. The Ulster XC series has seen some great attendance figures with the number of young riders every increasing. There are plans ongoing for skills days for the Under 14s with more details to follow in a separate article.
ULSTER XC SERIES ROUND 5 - DUNMORE
The next round of the Ulster XC series will take place on Saturday 2 July 2011 at Dunmore Mountain near Spa, Ballynahinch.
Host club Dromara CC has used this site for the last 5 years where previously it was included as a round of the National Point Series (NPS),
Irish Championships and Ulster Championships. It remains a challenging circuit for the senior riders and a great course for the youth with an enhanced circuit for the Under 8s and 10s added this year.
Pre-registration has opened and more details can be found on the Ulster XC website. www.ulsterxc.com
ULSTER XC SERIES ROUND 6 - CASTLEWELLAN
Round 6 of the Ulster XC Series will take place in Castlewellan Forest on Sunday 14 August 2011.
This race is now doubling up as the final round of the NPS and should attract a big crowd of riders from across Ireland.
Host club Xmtb McConvey Cycles are busy preparing the course that has seen some great off-road racing over the years.
More details coming soon on www.ulsterxc.com
ULSTER XC SERIES ROUND 7 - CRAIGAVON
On Saturday 3 September 2011 Apollo CT will be hosting the Ulster MTB XC Championships at the Craigavon Lakes site.
This round was due to be the last in the Ulster XC series but as the race categories will be reverting back to UCI standard categories this race will be a 'stand alone' event.
The race is open to all riders with prizes on the day for the top 3 in each category as well as medals for the top Ulster riders.
This means that the Ulster XC series will now be the best 5 out of 6 rounds.
More details about the Ulster Champs coming soon on www.ulsterxc.com
IRISH NATIONAL XC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
