Spath and FenlonTake Championship Wins

Joe Fenlon of Dan Morrissey Speedy pipped Martin O'Loughlin of Iverk Produce Carrick  to win the national Veteran's Road Race Championship. Fenlon who was the silver medallist in 2012 managed to get away in a break with last year's winner, Greg Swinand (Usher IRC) early on in the race. Despite some hard chasing the two were never reeled in.

Ulster's John Heverin of Clann Eireann was part of a chase group which also included O'Loughlin. They brought the gap down to 30 seconds at one point. On the last lap the chase group were caught and the bunch came within 100 metres of the two leaders. Coming to the line Fenlon was still ahead with Swinand tiring. O'Loughlin managed to break free of the bunch to catch them and literally these It was O'Loughlin and Fenlon who then sprinted for glory with Fenlon just taking the victory by a fraction.

Ulster riders in the top twenty included Heverin, Desi Woods (Newry Wheelers) and Jason Henry U/A.

In the women's race it was Melanie Spath (Cycleways) who took the win ahead of Siobhan Horgan (GES Gestion)   Olivia Dillon (Now and Novartis) and Lydia Boyaln of Look Mum No Hands.

Amy Brice of Phoenix CC did well to take tenth position while Sinead Rivers of Roe Valley was twelfth. Judith Russell of Phoenix, riding her first open race came in fifteenth position ahead of Roisin Kennedy. Russell is taking part in this year's Marmotte in France and judging by this result should have no problems finishing the event.
