The Cycling Ulster Executive would like to announce that, following the agreed transitional period, Tommy McCague has now stepped down as Chairperson.
After an election held by the Executive last night, Paul Sanders has been appointed as Interim Chairperson until the next AGM, with Pamela Ward taking on the role of Vice-Chair. The remaining Executive members remain unchanged.
Reflecting on his tenure, Tommy McCague shared the following statement:
“At the last AGM, held on 14th November 2024, several highly experienced members of the Cycling Ulster Executive stepped down. Whilst they were replaced by very competent individuals, there was a necessary period for them to develop the skill set required for their roles. I had agreed to stay on until March to support during this transition, and I am happy to announce that I can now step down.
I would like to personally thank every member of Cycling Ulster for their dedication in helping to grow and develop the sport, bringing it to where it is today. We are in a stronger position than ever in terms of finance, governance, policies, and procedures. While challenges remain for the incoming Executive, I have every confidence that they will be met for the greater good of the sport.
I also want to extend my gratitude to the many volunteers within the organisation—without you, the sport would not be where it is today. Your commitment is invaluable.
Now is the time to continue working together to help Cycling Ulster grow and to shape its future. On a personal note, I have given my utmost to this organisation and to you, the members. Thank you to the current Cycling Ulster Executive, as well as my fellow Executive colleagues who have recently stepped down—the dedication and effort you have shown is phenomenal.
I’d like to express my sincere thanks to the CEO of Cycling Ireland, James Quilligan as well as the Board of Cycling Ireland and the other Provincial Chairs, Dan Curtin, Brian Hayden and Padraic Quinn.
While I am stepping away from day-to-day operations, I remain available for support should any member have a query. Wishing you all a successful season ahead—may you enjoy plenty of miles on the bike!”
The Cycling Ulster Executive would like to express its sincere appreciation to Tommy for his leadership and commitment. We look forward to working with Paul, Pamela, and the entire Executive team to continue building on the strong foundation that has been laid.
